Split PDF

This PDF page splitter writes one PDF per selected page. Leave the range blank to split every page. One page downloads alone, and two or more pages come back in a ZIP.

Worked example

split-six.pdf was 1,910 bytes and six pages. The labels run from Page 1 — agenda through Page 6 — back cover, with notes, budget, appendix, and signature in between. The range typed was 1,3,5. Run Split PDF finished in 24 ms. The download was 1792694081390-split-pages.zip, 2,520 bytes, holding page-1.pdf, page-3.pdf, and page-5.pdf. Those three files are the agenda, the budget, and the signature. Pages 2, 4, and 6 were not in the archive.

When it fails or surprises you

The range 5-12 on that six-page file does not error. Pages past the end are skipped, so the ZIP is page-5.pdf and page-6.pdf, 1,695 bytes, in 11 ms. A field that contains only a space fails with No valid pages in " " for a 6-page PDF. An empty field is not that error: blank means every page, and the six-page file becomes page-1.pdf through page-6.pdf. protected.pdf stops with Input document to `PDFDocument.load` is encrypted. You can use `PDFDocument.load(..., { ignoreEncryption: true })` if you wish to load the document anyways. The range 1,3,3 does not repeat page 3. The ZIP has page-1.pdf and page-3.pdf only.

One page, not a picture

Typing 4 on the same six-page file downloaded 1792694081586-page-4.pdf, 866 bytes, in 11 ms. That page is labeled Page 4 — appendix. On this sample, abc shows No valid pages in "abc" for a 6-page PDF, and 99 shows No valid pages in "99" for a 6-page PDF. A backwards pair such as 5-2 is treated as 2 through 5, because the parser sorts the two ends. Extract PDF Pages stitches a range into one PDF instead of a ZIP.
