PDF to PNG

A slide, a ticket, or a design tool sometimes wants a PNG of a PDF page. PDF to PNG renders page 1 and downloads that image.

Only page 1, about 150 DPI

The renderer captures the first page and stops. A long report still produces one PNG of the cover. There is no page list and no ZIP of every page. Split out the sheet you need into its own PDF first. /blog/how-to-split-a-pdf-into-separate-pages shows that step. The draw scale is 150 divided by 72, about 150 DPI. A Letter page lands near 1275 by 1650 pixels. The image is flattened onto white, then saved as PNG. You cannot type a different DPI. Vector text becomes pixels.

PNG versus the JPG twin

PDF to JPG uses the same first-page render and saves JPEG at quality 90. Choose PNG when you want a lossless raster of text and flat graphics. Choose JPG when a photo page should stay smaller. Neither tool keeps the PDF text editable. PNG to PDF builds a document from PNG files and is the reverse direction. Images to PDF does that in the browser for mixed images. A transparent area in the PDF becomes white because of the flatten step.

When a picture of page 1 is not enough

You will not get pages 2 and onward, a transparent background, or a vector SVG. Password-protected files are not unlocked here. The cap is 25 MB and one PDF. If the cover is a scan, the PNG is a picture of that scan, which is what you want for a thumbnail and useless for editing the words. PDF to Word extracts text instead, and only when a text layer exists. A cover thumbnail is the job this render is built for.
