About GIF to JPG

A GIF is a poor fit when a form, a slide, or a photo printer wants a JPG. GIF to JPG writes a single JPEG of the first frame and fills transparency with white.

Animation stops at frame one

The converter opens the file as a still image and reads page zero. Every later frame is ignored. A looping reaction GIF becomes one picture, the first one, which is sometimes a blank or a fade-in. If the frame you need is not the first, export that frame in an editor before you upload. JPG to GIF goes the other way and will not restore the frames this page dropped.

White behind transparent pixels

GIF transparency is flattened onto white before the JPEG is written. A logo that was clear on a dark page will show a white box. JPEG has no alpha channel, so there is no option here to keep a transparent background. If you need the transparent pixels, convert to PNG with a tool that does not flatten, instead of forcing JPG. HEIC to JPG is for iPhone photos, not for GIF frames. PDF to JPG is for document pages.

One file, then check the edges

Upload a single GIF, up to 25 MB. Download the JPG and look at the edges and the background before you send it. Photos that started as GIF already gave up color: GIF holds at most 256 colors, and the JPEG cannot invent the ones that were never stored. The file may still be smaller and easier to attach than the GIF was.

How to use

  1. 1

Upload one GIF, up to 25 MB.

  2. 2

Run the job. Only the first frame is kept, and transparent pixels are painted white.

  3. 3

Download the JPG and check the background before you send it.

Privacy

The GIF is uploaded, the first frame is saved as JPG, and the temporary file is deleted after you download.

Frequently asked questions

Does the whole animation become a JPG?

No. Only the first frame is exported. Later frames are ignored.

What happens to transparency?

Transparent pixels are painted white, then saved as JPEG, which has no alpha channel.

Can I upload several GIFs?

No. One GIF per job, up to 25 MB.

Will the JPG look as sharp as a photo?

Only if the GIF already held that detail. A 256-color GIF cannot gain colors in the JPEG.

Animated GIFs?

The first frame is converted to a static JPG.

File size?

JPG typically produces smaller files than GIF for photos.
