Unlock PDF asks for a password you already know. On the measured file, the correct password still fails. It does not guess other passwords.
Correct password, same stop
protected.pdf is 1,251 bytes and was locked with secret123. The password field was filled with that same word and the job was run. PDFDocument.load still refused the file. The worker replaces that failure with this on-screen line: Incorrect password or unable to decrypt PDF. A wrong password produces the same line. There is no separate message that tells you the password was right. A blank field never uploads. The button path shows Please enter the PDF password. The server text, if a blank password is sent anyway, is Password is required to unlock the PDF.
What a finished unlock would have been
The code path that is supposed to succeed would save a new PDF and name it with unlocked.pdf. That file was not produced in the test. The 1,251-byte original is still the only copy. Merge PDF, Split PDF, and Rotate PDF also refuse this locked file, so there is no side door on those pages. /blog/how-to-remove-password-from-pdf describes the same limit: you must already be allowed to open the file, and this page still cannot open it. The upload cap remains 25 MB.
What this page will not do
It will not try a list of passwords, email a reset, or strip a permission flag from a file that already opens without a password. Protect PDF is the page with a password field for locking, and that save did not lock the measured file either. Does the correct password unlock protected.pdf?
Not in the measured run. secret123 is the password that created the 1,251-byte file, and the job still showed Incorrect password or unable to decrypt PDF.
Does a wrong password look different?
No. A wrong password and the correct one both end on that same sentence. The page does not say which case you hit.
What if I leave the password blank?
The form shows Please enter the PDF password and does not upload. A blank value sent to the server is Password is required to unlock the PDF.
Will this try other passwords?
No. One string is sent with the file. Nothing loops, guesses, or bypasses a password you do not know.
