Reverse Audio

Reverse Audio plays the samples of one clip from the end back to the start and downloads a WAV. The duration, sample rate, and channel count stay the same.

Last sample first

Each channel is copied into a new buffer. Sample 0 in the output is the last sample of that channel. The next output sample is the one before it, through to the original start. A stereo file reverses both channels. The length in samples does not change, so a 2 second clip is still 2 seconds. The sample rate is the rate the browser decoded. The tip on the form says the clip is reversed and the output is WAV. The button says Download WAV. The file name ends in reverse-audio.wav, after the original base name. If you press the button before a file is loaded, the message is Upload an audio file first.

What the reverse does not change

There is no start time and no end time. The whole clip is reversed. A trim is Audio Trimmer. A fade is a different panel. Volume is not a slider here. The WAV is uncompressed, so it can be larger than an MP3 you dropped. Speech played backwards is not a transcript. The page does not write lyrics or a reversed caption. Extra channels beyond stereo are reversed too, each on its own. None of them is dropped. The WAV is the whole clip, so a one-hour file comes back one hour long. There is no speed control that would shorten it. A clip of silence stays silence, only the sample order is flipped.

How to hear the check

A short tone that rises will fall after the reverse, because the late samples move to the front. If the download is silent, the source was silent. The reverse does not invent sound. If the browser cannot decode the file, you never reach the WAV step. Use a WAV from this site when a compressed file will not decode. The accepted picker lists common audio types, including wav, mp3, ogg, m4a, webm, and aac. Decoding still depends on the browser. If the decode fails you get no WAV at all, not a shortened one. The success hint Download started appears beside the button after a file is written. The download name ends in reverse-audio.wav, including the hyphen. The button stays Download WAV after the file is saved.

The samples are reversed in this browser. The audio is not uploaded. Keep the original if you want the forward version. A second download uses the same reversed buffer until you load a new file. Reversing twice would restore the original order, but this page does not offer a second reverse button. Load the WAV you just saved if you want to flip it forward again. The new file is decoded from scratch, then reversed once. A mono clip stays mono. A 44100 Hz file stays 44100 Hz. The WAV header is written by the same encoder the other audio downloads on this site use.
