About Audio Trimmer

Audio Trimmer keeps the span between a start time and an end time and downloads a WAV. The end time must be later than the start time.

Start time, end time, WAV

Load one audio file. The browser decodes it. Start begins at 0. End begins at the duration, shown to two decimals. Set both times in seconds. The kept audio is the samples from the start time through the end time. Start is rounded down to a sample. End is rounded up to a sample, then clamped to the file length. If the end sample is not after the start sample, the job stops with End time must be after start time. The download is a WAV named from the original file plus audio-trimmer. Upload is not part of this job. A file the browser cannot decode never reaches the time fields.

What the cut does not do

The sample rate stays the same. Channels stay the same. Loudness stays the same. Nothing is faded at the cut. A click at the boundary can happen when a sample jumps. There is no waveform view and no snap to silence. Trim Silence is a different tool. This one only uses the two times you type. There is no MP3 export. A 30-second MP3 cut from 1.00 to 3.00 becomes a WAV of about 2 seconds, larger or smaller than the MP3 depending on the WAV size, not on a bitrate you choose. The tip under the form says the output is WAV and the end must be after the start.

Times that surprise people

End cannot be past the duration, because the control maxes at the file length and the function also clamps. A start past the end is the error above. Equal times also fail, because the slice would be empty. Decimals are allowed. 1.5 to 2.25 keeps that span. The duration label is the source length, not the cut length. Subtract the times yourself if you want the new length before you download. Joining comes after, on Audio Joiner, and that page will demand matching sample rates. A trim does not change the rate, so a trimmed WAV still matches its source rate.

Formats the browser must open

The file picker accepts audio types plus mp3, wav, ogg, m4a, webm, and aac. Acceptance is not a promise that every browser decodes every one of those. If decode fails, you get the decoder error rather than a WAV. Try WAV if the compressed file will not open. Video is not an input. The cut is a copy of samples, not a new recording. Headphones and speakers are irrelevant here. Speaker Test is the page that plays a beep. This page writes a file. A cut from 1.00 to 3.00 keeps about two seconds of samples, rounded to the sample grid, at the source rate.

Frequently asked questions

What times are kept?

Samples from the start time up to the end time. Start rounds down to a sample. End rounds up, then stops at the file length.

What if the end is not after the start?

The job stops with End time must be after start time. Equal times fail too.

What is the download?

A WAV. The name includes audio-trimmer. There is no MP3 export and no bitrate control.

Does the cut change the sample rate?

No. Channels and sample rate stay the same. Loudness is not changed.

Is the audio uploaded?

No. The browser decodes the file and writes the WAV locally.
