Flip Image

Flip Image mirrors one picture across a horizontal switch, a vertical switch, or both, then downloads a PNG. Both switches start off.

Two toggles, same pixel size

Drop one image. If the drop is not a picture, the message is Please upload an image. After it loads, Flip horizontal and Flip vertical are separate buttons. Pressing one turns that mirror on. Pressing it again turns it off. Horizontal scale is minus 1 when that switch is on, which swaps left and right. Vertical scale is minus 1 when that switch is on, which swaps top and bottom. Both on is a 180 degree turn in appearance, still the same width and height. The canvas matches the photo's pixel size. The download name ends in -flip.png. The button says Download PNG. If you press it before a photo loads, the message is Load an image first.

What a flip does not change

Colors, crop, and file format of the source stay as the browser decoded them. The output is PNG even when the source was a JPEG. There is no angle other than the two mirrors. Rotate Image is the page with 0, 90, 180, and 270. Mirror Tile Image builds four copies. This page builds one. Text in the picture reads backwards when the horizontal switch is on, and upside down when the vertical switch is on. That is the mirror. There is no caption field. A 300 by 200 picture stays 300 by 200. The PNG keeps the pixels the browser decoded, including a transparent corner if the source had one.

Preview versus the file

The preview uses a CSS transform so you can see the switches before you download. The file is drawn on a canvas with the same scales. Download after the preview looks right. A second press of a switch that is already on returns that axis to normal. Neither switch is stored after you load a new file. Both reset. The pixels stay in this browser and are not uploaded. If the preview looks mirrored and the file does not, press Download PNG again after the switch is on, because the file uses the switches at the moment you press it. Loading a second photo clears both switches even if the first photo was mirrored.

When the mirror is the wrong job

A frame, a border, or a caption is a different tool. A 90 degree turn that should swap width and height is Rotate Image, not these switches. A photo that should face the other way is the horizontal switch alone. Leave the vertical switch off for that case. Transparency follows the canvas. A JPEG has none to keep. A 200 by 80 picture stays 200 by 80 with either switch, because the canvas copies the decoded width and height and only the scale signs change. The download is one PNG, not a pair of files.
