The three numbers

Enter the bill, the tip percent, and how many people. Tip is the bill times the percent divided by 100. Total is the bill plus that tip. Each person owes the total divided by the head count. People must be at least 1. There is no tax field. If the bill you type is already tax-inclusive, the tip is on that amount. If you want the tip on the pre-tax subtotal, type the subtotal, not the tax-inclusive total. A 20 percent tip on 80 is 16, and the total is 96. What is left out

The result does not add sales tax, round to the nearest dollar, or handle a separate “tip on the taxed amount” mode. Tip on Taxed Bill Calculator handles that extra step. When the split feels wrong

Everyone pays an equal share of the whole total, not a share of only the tip, and not a share based on what they ordered. There is no itemized check. Rounding on the display can leave a cent. The math stays in this browser. Percentage Calculator can answer “what is 18 percent of this bill” if you do not need the per-person line. If one person ordered more, agree the shares before you type a head count. The form will not weight the split. A 15 percent tip on 40 is 6, so the total is 46.
