Hours to Decimal

Hours to decimal adds the minutes divided by 60. The opening fields are 2 and 30, and the line reads Decimal hours: 2.5. Minute 60 is rejected.

Four pairs

2 hours and 30 minutes is 2.5. 1 hour and 0 minutes is 1. 0 hours and 45 minutes is 0.75. 2 hours and 15 minutes is 2.25. The display uses up to four decimal places, then drops trailing zeros, so 2.5 is not printed as 2.5000. The button reads Calculate. The fields are labeled Hours and Minutes. A blank field throws Enter a valid number before the division. Minutes of 60 or more throw Use hours ≥ 0 and minutes 0–59. A negative hour throws the same sentence. Minutes of 0 are allowed. Hours of 0 are allowed. There is no seconds field. 30 seconds is not half a minute on this form.

What the decimal is for

The result is a number of hours, not a clock time. Decimal to Hours is the page that turns a decimal back into hours and minutes. This page does not round 2.25 to 2.3. It does not apply a timesheet rule such as the nearest quarter. 2 hours and 20 minutes is 2.3333 when four places are kept, because 20 divided by 60 is one third, and the fourth place is the last 3 that toFixed keeps before the trailing-zero trim. Check that pair if a payroll sheet uses a different rounding. This page will not match a rule it does not implement. Hours of 0 with minutes of 0 display as 0. There is no seconds box, so 30 seconds cannot be entered as half a minute.

How to check 2 and 30

Leave the opening fields and press Calculate. The line should be Decimal hours: 2.5. Change minutes to 0 and expect 1 when hours are 1. Change minutes to 60 and expect the rejection, not 3. The same rejection covers a negative minute. The labels do not print a unit after the number other than the words Decimal hours. There is no AM or PM switch. 2 hours and 15 minutes reads 2.25. 0 hours and 45 minutes reads 0.75. Those two pairs confirm the division by 60 before you type a timesheet that is not a round half hour. 1 hour and 0 minutes displays as 1, not 1.0.

The division runs in this browser. The hours are not uploaded. The formulas were last checked in October 2026. Nothing is stored when you leave. A second press uses whatever is in the fields at that moment. The button is the word Calculate, with no tool name on it. A blank hours box stops on Enter a valid number before any division. Minutes are whole numbers in the check, and 59 is the last accepted minute. 2 hours and 20 minutes is one third of an hour plus 2, and four decimal places display 2.3333. This page does not round that to the nearest quarter hour.
