About Extract Phone Numbers

Extract Phone Numbers pulls digit runs that match a phone-like pattern and lists each unique match on its own line. If nothing matches, the line is No phone-like numbers found.

What the pattern keeps

The paste Call 415-555-0199 or +1 202 555 0148. Also 12. returns two lines: 415-555-0199 and +1 202 555 0148. The short 12 is not kept. Spaces, dots, and dashes can sit inside a match. A leading plus is allowed. Parentheses around a short group are allowed. Duplicates are removed. The order is the order of the first time each match appears. The button says Process. A blank box is rejected before the search. (415) 555-0199 is kept as its own line when that is how it was typed, parentheses included. A number written as 415 555 0199, with only spaces, is kept as that spaced text. The list does not insert dashes you left out. Edit the box and press Process again to replace the list.

What it will also grab

The pattern is not a check that the number can be dialed. An order id, a long ZIP-plus code, or a date written with separators can match. 12 was short enough to miss. A longer run of digits may be kept even when it is not a phone. Read the list before you paste it into a contact sheet. The tool does not format the matches into one international style. It does not validate a country code. It does not call the number. A match is trimmed, then listed once for that exact text. The page does not add a country prefix you did not type.

Empty and messy pastes

No phone-like numbers found. is the whole result when the pattern misses. It is not an error banner. HTML around a number is fine if the digits themselves match. Emails are a different extractor. URLs are a different extractor. This page does not strip the rest of the sentence onto the line. You get the match only, not the words beside it. A paste that is only the word hello produces that no-match line. A paste of one well-formed number produces one line and nothing else. Digits with no separator can still match when the run is long enough for the pattern, so read those lines before you treat them as phones.

Where the text stays

The paste stays in this browser. It is not uploaded. If a number is split across two lines, it may not match. Join the line and run Process again. If the same number appears twice with different spacing, both can remain, because the text of the match differs. Call 415.555.0199 keeps the dots in the line it returns. A second copy written as 415-555-0199 is a different string, so both lines stay. The word phone beside a number is not copied onto the result line. The search is the whole paste, not one line at a time, unless a break splits the digits.
